P.S.

Sara, the more experience nurse, explained effacement to me after she did her exam. She did a much better job of explaining it and now I have an idea of what she means.

Maybe I would have learned these things had I taken a birthing class. Oops. Still sticking with my doctor's opinion that my body "will do what it will do, it doesn't need your brain" :)

  1. Just a quick mommy note: The first contractions (early labor) do not really hurt as much as they are uncomfortable. It is typically around 4 cm, once you hit active labor, that the contractions and pain really kick in. Yes, it is true that everyone is different. Maybe you are a lucky one.

  2. That's about what the doctor said too - maybe I won't be in as much pain as some people because I didn't even know I had 2 contractions when I was on the fetal monitor today, but she said after 4 cm I'll definitely rate them as painful. Whether it'll be terribly painful or not too bad - we'll see.
